Dear White People, We Are Not Being Oversensitive.

stfuandlistenwhitepeople:

Being oversensitive is when you cry for three hours because you stepped on a LEGO. Being oversensitive is when your whole day is ruined because you dropped a penny down a sewage drain. Being oversensitive is when a complete stranger accidentally bumps you in the street and then you decide that the person is the worst person ever in existence.

Noticing racism and calling it out or trying to get other people to notice it is not “being oversensitive”.

Racism is a big damn problem. If you’re saying that we’re being oversensitive when it comes to racism, you’re pretty much saying that you think racism is either a small problem or barely exists. You’re lucky that you are white and can overlook it. You’re lucky that you’re the default. You’re lucky that no one will ever judge you on the same level that we are.

And you know what? It’s fucking unfair. We’re not being whiny, we’re doing one of the few things we can do in response to racism. When it comes to ending racism, it’s you white people who have the most to change.

So shut up, listen, and learn, dammit.
